Aboriginal Youth Mean Business!

Kirk Mann

Kirk Mann is a self-employed artist who turned his hobbies into a successful business. His business, Status Solutions, focuses on web sites and graphics.

Status Solutions has been in business since 2006, starting out administrating web sites for organizations such as ACI Manitoba, Film Training Manitoba, and Urban Shaman Gallery. Kirk's graphic design work was being printed in newspapers, magazines, and posted throughout Canada which led to great exposure. As clients grew from word of mouth, services grew to include web design and photography.

He states, "I've always been interested in business, working for myself has been a major goal in life". With a need to be creative in his work, web and graphic design became a natural fit.

Status Solutions has had the pleasure to work with clients such as SAY Magazine, ACI Manitoba, Urban Shaman Gallery, Peguis First Nation, Isaac Consulting, and Film Training Manitoba.

Focusing on business in high school, Kirk went on to graduate from Red River College with a diploma in Business Administration. An internship at APTN as a web intern is what provided Kirk with the experience and confidence he needed as a web designer.

Kirk's advice for aspiring young Aboriginal Entrepreneurs is to "be prepared to work harder and cheaper than your competitors to get the clients, then it's just a matter of keeping your clients happy. In the beginning I did a lot of work for free just to get the client and experience, but those jobs led to more clients which paid in the end".
